In our new series Been There, Friend of the Blog, Kate tells us about taking her 3 kiddos to the Grand Opening of a new Lego shop in Eugene.
Here's her report :) Name of the place you visited: Bricks & Minifigs Eugene How did you hear about it? Facebook. What made you want to check it out? People in many of my social media communities were SUPER excited about it. There is a store like Bricks & Minifigs in Corvallis (Brick Circuit) that some friends had visited and enjoyed, so they were eager to have one here. Best thing about Bricks and Minifigs: You can build you own Minifig for just $4. The kids loved picking a head, body, pants, hat/hair, and accessory. Plus extra accessories are just .50 each, so I got to be the fun parent and say yes to extras without breaking the bank. Not so great thing about it: The set prices seemed a bit high (but I tend to stock up from big box stores during sales, so I’m cheap). Who should check it out? I'd totally tell parents with Lego enthusiast kids, or grandparents, fun aunts/uncles wanting to treat kids to a new toy to go here. Here's more about what I really think: We went on opening day and it was PACKED. I was excited to see just how many lego fans live in Eugene. They had it really well staffed, so the checkout line moved swiftly and all our question were easily answered. My girls were quick finishing building their Minifigs so they enjoyed playing at a duplo play table, and grandma was able to sit on the comfy seating right next to them. My 5 year old took his time building his Minifig and then had a blast digging around in the bulk bins with his dad making a spaceship. They’ve got different sized containers/bags so you can buy pieces from the bulk bin. They also were really happy to have kids/adult just playing in the bins. It's rare that I take all 3 kids into a store and don’t feel in the way or annoying at some point, and we NEVER got that vibe here. We will for sure be back. They’re working on a birthday party option! Much to the delight of my kids, the hold up on the party room is that they need to cut a hole in the wall between their store and party space. We heard that they will have more info and pricing up as soon as they get the door in. Parking situation: They share a free parking lot with several restaurants, so I can see it being crowded at peak meal times, but there is also free street parking. Cost: You choose! You could look and spent nothing, get a minifig for $4 (or more if you want a specific/rare one), or spend hundreds on epic sets. Age recommendation: All ages!
